The clamp on split half coupling mates with the gearbox output coupling to connect the boat propeller shaft to the gearbox. On solid mounted engines this would be directly connected, however, to reduce vibration and noise transmission, most boat propeller shafts are first connected to a flexible coupling, such as those which we stock by R and D Marine.
A clamp on split type propeller shaft coupling is machined to suit the boat propeller shaft diameter but can accommodate the variations that can occur with normal boat propeller shaft tolerances. They are simple to install and can be adjusted to the required position on the shaft. Small couplings are bored, but larger coupling sizes are bored and keyed, for location and drive on the shaft. The shaft coupling is secured to the boat propeller shaft with the clamp bolts supplied. R&D clamp on split shaft couplings are machined from solid steel and available in imperial or metric size for most popular marine gearboxes.
Please note: Dimension shown is the nominal outside diameter of the coupling mating flange.
