Requests for Thornycroft spares should always be accompanied by the engine number / build list. The Thornycroft 140 is a 4 cylinder, 4 stroke, vertical, inline 2.29L diesel engine, based on the five bearing crank version of the popular Landrover 2.25 series engine. Designed as a replacement for the popular Thornycroft 154, the 140 engine was available in both Heat Exchanger and Keel Cooled configuration. It was also available for a short while as the Thornycroft 140R which used new marine equipment on a factory rebuilt engine. From the MS-01-140 Thornycroft leaflet, ratings are as follows: 1500RPM 27BHP 6.61LPH, 2000RPM 36BHP 8.81LPH, 2500RPM 44BHP 10.77LPH, 3000RPM 50BHP 12.51LPH. Intermittent rating is 60BHP.
