Requests for Thornycroft spares should always be accompanied by the engine number / build list.
Both the Thornycroft 238 and T238 are based on Cummins 4B engines.
The 238 uses the 4B series 4 cylinder, 4 stroke, vertical, inline 3.92L naturally aspirated diesel engine.
The T238 uses the 4BT series 4 cylinder, 4 stroke, vertical, inline 3.92L turbo charged diesel engine.
These four cylinder engines provided excellent performance, in a small, compact configuration. The legendary Cummins reliability meant the engines quickly became popular, being fitted singularly and in pairs in a wide range of leisure and commercial craft.
The first engines produced had Cummins base engines and Thornycroft components. These were painted in the trademark Thornycroft blue, This changed to white per builders requests. The final units were based on the full Cummins marine engines, and badged by Thornycroft. Again, these units were white.
