Thornycroft 90 & Thornycroft 90/2 engine spares: The Thornycroft 90 is a 4 cylinder, 4 stroke, vertical, inline 1.489L diesel engine. Based on the BMC1.5 B series engine block, Thornycroft marinised this in two versions. The Thornycroft 90 was heat exchanger cooled, and can be found in Yachts such as Moody, as well as small motor cruisers. The Thornycroft 90E was keel cooled for Inland Canal use. From the MS-02-90 Thornycroft 90 leaflet, ratings are as follows: 1500RPM 13.5BHP 3LPH, 2000RPM 20BHP 4.15LPH, 2500RPM 25.5BHP 5.55LPH, 3000RPM 30BHP 6.8LPH. The Type 90 engine was one of the most successful and therefore popular small marine engines. It was marinised for 25+ years, and appeared in various forms, from the early MKI with cast iron components, to the last 90/2 version with combined heat exchanger and much needed lip type rear oil seal.
